Introduction To Beekeeping Course – Full Day

Learn the basics of beekeeping on the one day course on our 180 hive bee farm in Tamworth, Staffordshire. You will go away knowing the basics of beekeeping and have had hands on experience working with a honey bee colony as well as theory and plenty of Q&A time.

The Itinerary

10am – meet at our farm, 5 minutes from Junction 10 of the M42 (Full directions will be given prior to the day)

Grab a drink and biscuits before we start the first half of the day which will be spent inside learning all about honey bees and beekeeping theory. Topics include: What hive and equipment to get, where to get honey bees, what is swarming and how to deal with it, Other key honey bee management information and skills you need to know before going into beekeeping.

We will then have a light lunch which is included – Please let us know any dietary requirements

For the second half of the day we will get you suited up and teach you to light a smoker before heading out to look through some hives and complete some hive inspections. You will be able to do as much or as little as you like with the bees but there will be ample opportunities to have a go and make sure you feel comfortable working the bees.

We will go back in for a drink and final Q&A before we wrap up for the day at around 3:30 -4pm

The boring bits- 

There will be a maximum of 5 people on the course, price stated is per person.

The experience is weather dependant- Should the weather forecast be bad we will look to move the course to a alternative weekend date as soon as possible. If you are unable to attend the alternative date you will be offered a refund.

Cancellations within 2 weeks of the date will not be refunded.

Under 18s must be accompanied by a participating adult at all times, the minimum age is 14.

Although we will be wearing protective clothing there is the possibility of getting stung so if you know you are allergic to bee stings please do not book this course. We recommend bringing wellies to keep your ankles protected.
