This beekeeping experience lasts between one and two hours. The experience includes a complimentary drink and packet of ‘perfect for pollinators’ wildflower seeds per person.
To make sure you get the most personal experience possible we don’t mix bookings, that means if you order a voucher for 1 person it will a 1 on 1 session, doing this means we can provide each guest or group of guests with a tailored experience and move through the experience at a pace you are comfortable with.
Meet at our farm, 5 minutes from Junction 10 of the M42 (Full directions will be given post booking)
Get a drink and have around 30 minutes talking about beekeeping, the bees and the equipment needed
Go out to the Apiary and get suited up
Go through the tools we will use and light the smoker
Open up a hive and go through doing a full inspection, I will be pointing things of interest as we go
Photo opportunity and last chance to ask any questions

Under 18s must be accompanied by a participating adult at all times, the minimum age is 10.
Although we will be wearing protective clothing there is the possibility of getting stung so if you know you are allergic to bee stings please do not book this experience. We recommend bringing wellies to keep your ankles protected.

I was bought the Beekeeping Experience as a birthday present and took my Dad along on Sunday morning as we both love bees and are both very interested in their conservation and care. We would both love a hive but that is a work in progress as we are trying to find the space!!!
Anyway! What can I say?! The Experience was absolutely amazing and we had such a wonderful morning. We left buzzing!! If you can excuse the pun!!
Matthew is so friendly, knowledgeable and made us feel so comfortable. He was happy to answer all of our questions and you could feel his love of beekeeping throughout. The informative talk at the start was just fantastic and very informative. Then we suited up and headed out to the hive where he demonstrated an inspection, pointed out many points of interest and facts from the talk. We were then able to get hands on and lift the frames out ourselves as he made us feel very at ease and guided us throughout.
A perfect morning, really well put together and conducted Experience and I really hope to come back in the future to learn even more. Hopefully one day to learn as much as possible from Matthew in order to keep my own honey bees!

Fab from start to finish.
My partner came with me as a spectator. The informative talk at the start was very interesting and Matthew is well informed and knows his stuff!
We spent around 30 mins with the bees and after being shown what to do Matthew let me check each frame carefully under his supervision.
We saw many things that we had talked through at the start and it was an amazing experience.
I purchased the lemon infused honey and new chocolate honey afterwards to try!

I attended a beekeeping experience with Holt hall apiary this past Saturday and I can’t praise Matthew enough.
He is very knowledgeable and is more than happy to answer questions and a discuss all aspects of beekeeping as well as the subtle differences between hobby beekeeping and commercial.
Matthew is very friendly and makes you feel comfortable around the bees.
When we got to the hive I was like a kid in a sweet shop (I think I his it well).
Anyone with he slightest interest in beekeeping should be booking themselves onto one of these experiences. Just bee warned the frames are heavier than you think.

Our group had a great time at the Beekeeping Experience yesterday. We were given an info pack with wildlife attracting seeds and had an informative talk over a cold drink (very needed in the heat!) where Matthew told us about bees and beekeeping. He was very knowledgeable when we bombarded him with questions! We then had a short walk to two hives and had a look inside to get to know the ‘anatomy’ of a beehive. We got to handle the frames and have an in-depth look at the comb, eggs and the different castes of bee (queen, workers and drones). Such a unique, unusual experience and highly recommended!
